What’s the last thing you wrote?
The sad beginnings to a porn. I am really out of writing shape.
Was it any good?
Yes, until I ran into the roadblock of dialogue. Once I assimilate with Selphi I'll be fine.
What’s the first thing you wrote that you still have?
Funny enough, a story from 3rd or 4th grade about how Alucard was my uncle, as was Richter, and how we had a cool thanksgiving. I should scan it one day; there's even little wolves and bats drawn around it.
Write poetry?
Only for birthdays, depression, or when inspired.
Angsty poetry?
My depressed poetry is soooo angsty. One thing I can say for myself is that I never wrote about having a dark soul.
Favourite genre of writing?
...romance... Or horror!
Most fun character you’ve ever created?
Uh... I usually have fun with all of my characters (notable exception: Simon), but I tend to favor flirts, shy people, and the flamboyantly gay. Overall I would think of my D&D characters - Lisear, because of his dauntless optimism and sunshine spirit in the face of hardship - or maybe Van, the elven muscleman dance troupe member. Writing wise, I love Spire - playing him, writing him, getting into his little fictional mind... Generally the characters I think are fun are the most annoying for everyone else.
Most annoying character you’ve ever created?
Simon. Mainly because I just don't like him anymore. As for characters in my writing, maybe Voden because all his dialogue ends up the same way: assholey.
Best plot you’ve ever created?
Probably...the guy who volunteers for "robotic possesion exercises" (i.e. - brain in robot) gets released, but his body is long gone. Rotted away. Dead. He was one of the first experiments and stuff happens. Disheartened he returns home, but the body wasn't styled to look like him so his wife refuses to believe it's him and he ends up being wanted by the cops (Officer, this scary robot is trying to break into my home!). So now he just wants to convince the world that he really is a person and he is really alive.
Coolest plot twist you’ve ever created?
The protagonist isn't the scientist. (I was gonna post this here, so I'll update this later.)
How often do you get writer’s block?
Constantly. T_T
Write fan fiction?
Shamefully, yes... But my fanfiction has gotten me acclaim in school before, so I guess it's good?
Do you type or write by hand?
Both, but I prefer the emotionless and cold computer to writing. When I hand write I have a tendency to doodle in the margins and stop writing. It always happens, so I don't do it unless I need to. Then I always feel self-conscious, too, because at least on a computer you can look busy. When you hand-write, people always ask, "what are you writing?" and then you have to say "the morning routines of Fourth Flame, currently I am describing his sunbathing habits".
Do you save everything you write?
I try to. I figure when I'm an old lady or a famous writer I'll look back on all my old stuff and laugh or reminisce or maybe improve on my ideas. I have a lot of good ideas, but technique maybe not so much and why is my keyboard squeaking?!
Do you ever go back to an idea after you’ve abandoned it?
Depends. I have gotten some bad ideas before, deemed them bad, and scrapped them for eternity. If I get stumped with the direction of the plot, or otherwise stuck, then I'll go back later and patch it up. Sometimes the ideas I scrap aren't half-bad and I salvage them later, either modified or in a different story or whatever. Sometimes the idea is just not gonna work, like Lydia dragging her ghost-beau's decaying body to a meat freezer and preserving it. Then you run into the question: if not that, how does the body stay fresh? Hmmmm...
What’s your favourite thing you’ve written?
Either one of my angsty poems ("Blood Rage", I believe it was called), the beginning of FD, or maybe the Alyssa fanfic I wrote for the journalism capstone thingie. I also liked my second-person story where you die. :D
What’s everyone else’s favourite story that you’ve written?
Um...I dunno. Amy liked all the PS things I gave her, Tina loved the Leo/Marissa thing I wrote over in
bluesong, and otherwise...I don't know.
Do you ever show people your work?
Not normally. Call me shy.
Did you ever write a novel?
I have tried many many times, but in the end my short attention span and lack of organization does me over.
Ever written romance or angsty teen drama?
Yes and yes. I write romance all the time, even when I don't want to or don't mean to, and angsty teen drama was all too common back when I actually was an angsty teen.
What’s your favourite setting for your characters?
Raccoon City. I know what you're thinking, "the one time you actually played RE you were whimpering and crying and scared". Well, I played it TWICE, thank you, although George totally ditched me the second time, and that doesn't nullify my preference. I should actually just say "scary zombie invasion" since I love the zombie-apocalypse-urgency thing and I love to write with it.
How many writing projects are you working on right now?
Um...actually writing, or planning to write? If the former, 1. If the latter...3. I still have two sci-fi's to do.
Do you want to write for a living?
Yes, but I also want to eat. I figure I can be a cool scientist and have a pen name on the side for my writing. When I retire I'll be a cool old lady, writing books, exploring the world, and owning a gazillion cats.
Have you ever won an award for your writing?
In school! Yaaaaay! Actually, it was for my newspaper writing. Not encouraging, is it? :(
Ever written anything in script or play format?
That's how I do most of my RPs (does that count? no?). Overall I have too little experience and I am too awkward with it, and I also have the tendency to put comments in the stage directions.
What are your five favourite words?
Moist, sunshine, rainbow, bone, abberation
Do you ever write based on yourself?
All of my characters have some part of me in them, and I think it's really unavoidable when you're the one investing time, energy, and spirit into the character. For situations, I used to routinely pull them from my life when they were interesting. Now I just pull them from other peoples'. :X
What character have you created that is most like yourself?
The one that goes "hell yeah!" the most? I dunno, maybe Lisear because I would go after the hot pirate captain too. I really really tried to distance my personality from my characters' ever since the HEARTBREAKING ANNOUNCEMENT when Chris told me long ago my characters were like me :( Overall probably the characters in the stories made from my dreams, because it is usually me in the dream instead. Unless I write about the gender-switching gangster (no, not kidding).
Where do you get ideas for your characters?
Everywhere. Words, faces, clothes, patterns, the news, the past...absolutely everywhere.
Do you ever write based on your dreams?
See above! Yes, frequently. My subconscious is very creative and leads to interesting plots I would not normally come up with. Can I think of an example that is not lame...? Being trapped in a hotel, with each ascending floor being another dangerous situation, from guys with guns to dim lights, monsters, traps, you name it. At the top we're allowed to escape, but just how many people can get through all of that?
Do you favour happy endings, sad endings or cliff-hangers?
Happy endings 4eva. Cliff-hangers get me mad, sad endings get me depressed and I am really over with being depressed. I try to work happy endings in as much as I can, even if it's not necessarilly "realistic". Although the people who always demand sad endings in the name of realism aren't much better (you hear me, mean Amazon book reviewers?!).
Have you ever written based on an artwork you’ve seen?
Yes. I don't remember what but I know I have.
Are you concerned with spelling and grammar as you write?
Yes, definitely. I slack in AIM, LJ, texts...pretty much everywhere. But writing is one of those things where constantly broken sentences, bad capitalization, bad spelling, or bad punctuation can completely remove the illusion.
Ever write anything in chatspeak (how r u?)
Yes! It was a silly little thing I wrote thinking "what if Lydia had AIM".
Entirely in L337?
|\|0.
Was that question appalling and unwriterly?
Haha no.
Does music help you write?
Not if I have my normal 20-song playlist, but listening to songs that fit the mood I'm writing bring me into the zone. (My best song for depression is Fallen - Sarah McLachlan.)
Quote something you’ve written. Whatever pops into your head.
"I am a man, Marissa!" because I just read it :D I really can't quote off the top of my head. I'll go find something later.
